Week 10: Virtual and In-Person Tours of Famous Landmarks

It was a rainy Saturday afternoon, and the group had gathered at Chen’s apartment. The plan to go hiking was canceled, but Fatima had an idea.

“We can’t explore outside, but we can take a trip around the world,” she said with a grin.

Diego looked confused. “What do you mean? We’re stuck inside!”

“Virtual tours!” Fatima explained. “We can visit famous places online. It’s almost like being there.”

“Great idea!” Maria said, her eyes lighting up. “I’ve never done that before.”

Alex set up his laptop, connecting it to the big TV in Chen’s living room.

Scene 1: Starting the Virtual Tour

“Where should we go first?” Alex asked, typing in a search bar.

“The Eiffel Tower!” Maria said instantly. “I’ve always wanted to see it.”

Moments later, images of the Eiffel Tower filled the screen. They explored the virtual platform, zooming in on the intricate iron design and the view of Paris from the top.

“It’s so beautiful,” Maria said, her voice soft.

“In person, the lines are very long,” Alex added. “But this way, no waiting!”

Chen chuckled. “That’s true. Let’s go somewhere else now.”

Scene 2: Visiting the Great Wall and Taj Mahal

Chen suggested the next destination. “The Great Wall of China. It’s a must-see.”

The group watched as the screen showed winding stone paths stretching across mountains.

“It’s so big,” Lily said, impressed. “How did people build this?”

“It took hundreds of years,” Chen explained. “It’s one of the wonders of the world.”

Fatima then suggested, “Let’s visit the Taj Mahal next. It’s in India.”

The group admired the white marble palace and its reflection in the water.

“It looks like a dream,” Maria said. “I want to visit it one day.”

Scene 3: Sharing Experiences of Famous Landmarks

As the virtual tour continued, the group started sharing their own experiences.

“I visited the Colosseum in Rome with my family,” Diego said. “It’s amazing to stand where gladiators once fought.”

Alex added, “I’ve been to the Statue of Liberty in New York. It’s smaller than I imagined, but the view from the top is incredible.”

“What about you, Lily?” Maria asked.

Lily hesitated. “I’ve never been to any famous landmarks. But I’ve seen pictures of Big Ben in London. It looks nice.”

“You’ll visit someday,” Fatima said encouragingly. “We all will.”

Scene 4: Practicing Vocabulary

Maria pulled out her notebook. “Let’s write down some words for landmarks we talked about,” she suggested.

  • Eiffel Tower
  • Great Wall
  • Taj Mahal
  • Statue of Liberty
  • Big Ben
  • Colosseum

“Now, let’s make sentences,” Maria said.

Chen started. “The Great Wall is in China. It is very long.”
Fatima added, “The Taj Mahal is in India. It is very beautiful.”
Lily tried, “Big Ben is a clock tower in London.”

Diego smiled. “This is fun. I like learning with all of you.”

Scene 5: Planning Future Trips

As the rain continued to fall outside, the group began discussing their dream trips.

“I want to visit Paris,” Maria said. “The Eiffel Tower and the Louvre Museum.”

“For me, it’s Egypt,” Fatima said. “I want to see the Pyramids.”

“I’d love to visit Japan,” Chen added. “The temples and cherry blossoms are so beautiful.”

Diego grinned. “Argentina has many landmarks too. If you come, I’ll show you.”

Alex nodded. “And one day, we’ll all explore together. Maybe we can plan a trip!”

Scene 6: Wrapping Up

The day ended with laughter and new dreams. Alex closed the laptop.

“This was fun,” Lily said. “Even though we didn’t go outside, I feel like we traveled the world.”

Maria agreed. “And now I know more about famous places. I can talk about them in English.”

Fatima smiled. “That’s the best part. We’re learning and having fun.”
